In the late 1960's STX Engineers were working on the design and development of a composite head. Then in mid-1970, 2 patents were issued for their work. The version with the rounded scoop is the more familiar version and can be found in the Model 73, 74, 76, 84 and International Box Stick. However, for the OBSESSED COLLECTOR - the holy grail is the initial version - with a flat scoop. According to several former employees of STX that I have had the pleasure of speaking, with the version with the flat scoop was produced in limited quantities and only distributed to players and coaches in a 'beta' like testing approach. The composite material was not as flexible as intended and was quickly pulled due to the numerous challenges it presented including difficulty to pick up a ground ball and keeping the ball in the pocket.
